Introduction to the Seven Chakras

The seven chakras are the main energy centers of the body. We're going to dive into the basics of each one and provide insight into when they are in and out of balance, and how to support them with crystals and different yoga poses.

1) The Root Chakra or Muladhara:

Your first chakra is located at the base of your spine, at your tailbone and around your pelvic floor.

It’s associated with:

  • the color red

  • the earth element

  • crystals hematite, tigers eye, and garnet

Its the foundation. It’s associated with feeling supported by and grounded in yourself and the universe. It’s responsible for feeling a sense of safety and security in all aspects — physically, financially, mentally, emotionally. Imbalances of the root chakra include: ✖️anxiety ✖️fear ✖️feelings of standing on unstable ground ✖️issues in the colon or bladder ✖️issues in lower back, legs & feet Signs of a balanced root chakra: ♥️ having confidence ♥️ trusting of yourself and others ♥️ feeling secure & independent ♥️ financially solid ♥️ feeling supported ♥️ having compassion & patience with yourself & others Healing yoga poses:

  • child’s pose

  • mountain pose

In these poses, intentionally press down into the mat, feeling the earth beneath you providing you with support.

2) The Sacral Chakra or Swadhisthana:

Your second chakra is located in your lower abdomen, about two inches below your navel.

Associated with:

  • the color orange

  • the water element

  • crystals tangerine quartz or carnelian

The second chakra focuses on feelings, relationships (with ourselves and others), creative exploration, sexuality, and desire. It encourages us to let go of resistance, be open to life as it is, and to “go with the flow”.

Imbalances of the sacral chakra include: ✖️fear of loss of control in relationships ✖️chronic low back pain ✖️low confidence ✖️inability to create intimate connections with others ✖️hip and groin issues Signs of a balanced sacral chakra 🧡 passion and successful fulfillment 🧡 physically + emotionally well 🧡 comfortable feeling pleasure 🧡 express yourself creatively 🧡 feel abundant + joy Healing yoga poses:

  • malasana squat (aka - yogi squat)

  • half pigeon

These are both hip openers and allow the energy of the sacral chakra to flow. It’s important that these are never forced to where you feel pain. Surrendering into a hip opener should be done slowly and with ease.

3) The Solar Plexus or Manipura:

Your third chakra is located in the stomach right below your ribcage - it is your energy powerhouse.

Associated with:

  • the color yellow

  • the fire element

  • crystals pyrite and citrine

The third chakra governs our personal power. It moderates our ability to achieve the goals we set for ourselves. It focuses on our self-esteem, self-worth and self-discipline. Imbalances of the solar plexus include: ✖️problems in the kidneys, intestines and pancreas ✖️feeling powerless ✖️self-doubt ✖️emotional and physical depletion ✖️believe you are a victim ✖️anger or aggression ✖️casting judgement upon others Signs of a balanced solar plexus include: 💛 ability to overcome fear 💛 confidence without arrogance 💛 feel motivated with a sense of purpose 💛 find it easy to make decisions 💛 accepting of yourself and others Healing yoga poses:

  • crystals rose quartz and malachite

The fourth chakra deals with unconditional love. It moderates our ability to have and show love, compassion and empathy for ourselves and others. It is intuitive wisdom - acquiring knowledge beyond our perceptions and illusions. It allows us to realize that nothing is actually holding you back, it’s only your thoughts and mind that have power over you and create limitations… if you let it. Imbalances of the third eye include: ✖️unwillingness to look within and unearth our fears ✖️fear of the truth ✖️clouded reasoning ✖️fear of our shadow side Signs of a balanced third eye include: 🔮 knowing you are free 🔮 believing that only you (and not others) have the power over your life choices and path 🔮you can decipher between what is true and what is illusion 🔮you are connected to and follow your inner wisdom for guidance Healing yoga poses:

7) The Crown Chakra or Sahasrara:

The crown chakra is located close to the top of your head.

It’s associated with:

  • The color violet

  • crystals clear quartz and celestite

The seventh chakra opens us up to a boundless sense of oneness and connection. It allows us to realize that we are all in this together and we are right here in this experience knowing what it means to be human. The more we connect with this chakra, the more we can shift our collective consciousness on a massive scale. It’s important to note that in order to truly connect with the crown chakra, one must first spend time developing the first six chakras.

Imbalances of the crown include:

💜 relying on your own internal wisdom

💜 devoted to the well-being of yourself and others because you see them as a part of you, not as separate

💜 experience intuitive knowledge
